Tailoring Program

The Safe Spaces tailoring business continues to focus on providing income-generating opportunities for urban marginalized women whose businesses have struggled or closed. The project also contributes to generate revenue to support other Safe Spaces programs.

One of the goals for the Tailoring project is to provide required school uniforms at a lower price so that more families can afford to send their children to school

Achievements

10 women recruited to work in the tailoring shop.

Over 1200 uniforms sewn, including dresses, shirts, shorts, and pullovers.

Women tailors produced 8000 face masks, contributing to public health efforts.

Total revenues for the year reached KShs 567,000 reflecting a for the last two years.

Improved livelihoods for families in the Mathare slum.

Face masks and uniforms supplied to local schools contributed to enhancing health and education outcomes.

Tailors trained in advanced skills such as sewing dresses, African attire, and overalls, broadening their capabilities and marketability.

Peninah has found it possible to sell uniforms at a slightly lower price than the competition and still be profitable and still be able to contribute to SSO programs.
