Safe Spaces Social Enterprises

Safe Spaces exists to help girls and women in the Eastland slums of Nairobi escape poverty and violence. Its Social Enterprises support their programs, develop local entrepreneurship and solve community problems.

The Safe Spaces Water Project aims to provide affordable, clean water to the residents of Mathare Slum, one of Kenya's largest informal settlements, addressing water scarcity and poor sanitation.

It helps over 200,000 residents who face waterborne diseases like cholera and malaria.

The Awesome Blossoms Project empowers marginalized women in Mathare through urban farming.

With 3 hydroponic farms, 75 community women, 60 Peer Educators, and partnerships with local schools, it promotes organic, water-efficient farming for food security and economic independence. It supplies fresh vegetables for school lunches. It is creating a Center of Expertise to build skills and share their knowledge with other schools and communities.

The Tailoring Program continues to focus on providing income-generating opportunities for women.

Recruited women tailors create affordable school uniforms, face masks, and perform clothing repairs, alongside Peer Educators involved in direct sales to schools.
